Bergé y Cía was founded in Bilbao in 1870 as a ship agent and stevedore company. During the 20th century, it spread throughout Spain and opened offices in the major Spanish ports.

Starting in 1975, it began to diversify its business by importing industrial equipment and starting car distributorships. This process of expanding its business has led it into areas such as finance, energy, logistics and new technologies that constitute a major future challenge.
